Think Before You Ink: 5 Things to Avoid Before Your Tattoo Session

Getting a tattoo is a significant decision and should be approached with care. To ensure that your tattoo appointment goes smoothly, there are several things that you should avoid doing before getting inked. Here are FIVE that you should NOT do before getting a tattoo!

1. Don’t drink alcohol or take drugs

Drinking alcohol or taking drugs before a tattoo appointment is never recommended by Not A Cool Tattoo. This is because these substances can affect your judgment and make you less aware of the pain during the tattooing process. We get it, tattoos can be painful. Luckily, we offer numbing cream in our studio to mitigate this concern. Additionally, alcohol and drugs can thin your blood, which can cause excessive bleeding during the tattoo. This can lead to complications and may affect the quality of the final tattoo.

2. Don’t sunbathe or use tanning beds

Being in Florida, we completely understand how hard it is to avoid the sun. With that being said, it's not advisable to tan or use tanning beds before a tattoo appointment. Excessive sun exposure or tanning can damage your skin, making it more sensitive to pain during the tattooing process. Additionally, tanning can cause uneven healing and fading of your tattoo. It's important to keep the skin healthy and in good condition before & after a tattoo to ensure the best possible outcome. If you have a tan or sunburn in the area where you plan to get a tattoo, it's best to wait until your skin has healed before+-+ scheduling your appointment.

3. Don’t skip meals

Getting a tattoo on an empty stomach can make you feel lightheaded or dizzy during the process, which can be dangerous for both you and the artist. It's important to eat a good meal before your appointment to maintain stable blood sugar levels and energy throughout the session. A balanced meal can help you stay relaxed, comfortable, and focused during the tattooing process, which can lead to a better outcome. Remember, getting a tattoo can take several hours, so it's essential to have enough energy and nutrition to help you endure the process.

4. Don’t wear tight or restrictive clothing

While not necessarily something that will get you turned away from tattooing, it will make your session go much smoother for you and your artist. Wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area where you will be getting tattooed. This will ensure that your tattoo artist can work easily without any hindrance.

5. Don’t rush the decision

We totally get it, tattoos are exciting! Getting a tattoo is a significant decision, an-d it's essential not to rush into it. Taking the time to consider your options and researching the best design for you is crucial to ensure you are happy with the outcome. While our artists are more than capable of making your ideas into reality, we want it to be something you love! Rushing into a decision may lead to regret and the need for costly coverup work. Additionally, a tattoo is a permanent addition to your body, so it's essential to choose something that reflects you! Therefore, taking the time to think through your decision can help you find a design that you will cherish and be proud to show off for years to come.
